VIII Shiryaevo Biennale of Contemporary Art

40 giorni di viaggio, 13 stati attraversati, 9400 km percorsi in auto, 8000 scatti fotografici; sono i numeri che scandiscono il viaggio alla base del progetto Est Memoriale, con il quale Pier Paolo Patti e Ciro Vitale hanno partecipato lo scorso 10 agosto 2013, su invito personale dei curatori Nelya Korzhova e Roman Korzhov alla VIII Biennale di Shiryaevo in Russia. Un progetto itinerante, in cui il viaggio stesso è divenuto materia dell'opera d'arte.
Un palinsesto di esperienze e visioni che hanno costituito il corpus ideale di SOMEWHERE l'istallazione site-specific presentata alla biennale di circa 8 metri per 3, in cui, uno dei personaggi narranti incontrati, diviene icona delle antinomie e delle complesse problematiche storiche e sociali che animano le terre dell'est.

4300 km driven in 12 days to reach Shiryaevo, passing through Greece, Bulgary, Romania, Moldova,Ukraina and Russia. It was a long journey through that historical piece of Eastern Europe that trace the boundary between East and West.
Many considerations have been made about the contradictions produced by ex-U.R.S.S. countries. The "time" is definitely the element that call us for huge reflections: it sometimes seems to be hang to comunism memoirs, other times it seems to long freedom and wellness. Starting form the differences, our aim is to underline the dangers of the westernization process, first of all the risk of ratification into the capitalistic system, which is always ready to explode into heavy financial crisis like the one we are going to.
The work realized for the VIII Shiryaevo Biennale of Contemporary Art is an image that represents the summary of our experience to show, into a contrasting point of view, the legacies of an history that still mark eastern people

4300 км пути за 12 дней было пройдено, чтобы добраться до Ширяево, миновав Грецию, Болгарию, Румынию, Молдову и Украину. Это был длинный путь по исторической части Восточной Европы, соединяющий Восток с Западом.
Много предположений было сделано относительно противоречивого образа стран бывшего СССР. Феномен "Времени", безусловно, является элементом, побуждающим нас на размышления: иногда это выглядит как некие мемуары коммунизму, иногда предстает в образе свободы и благополучия. Начав с выявления различий, нашей целью является обозначение опасности процесса вестенризации, в первую очередь, риска перехода к капиталистической системе, которая всегда готова вылиться в тяжелый финансовый кризис.
Работа, реализованная в рамках VIII Ширевской Биеннале Современного Искусства, с противоположной точки зрения представляет обобщение полученного нами опыта, показывая наследие истории, которое все еще выделяет восточноевропейское общество.
